Turf Bar lives up to its “sports bar” title. Sport - it’s a running theme throughout the immensely popular Queen Street watering hole. Luckily, for those who need some sustenance in between halves, or quarters, or innings, Turf Bar also does some spectacular pub grub (some of it sports themed!), within some exceedingly classy Victorian surrounds.
Large comfortable function rooms with capacities up to 400 and large TVs and projectors make Turf ideal for anything sports related. It's everything you'd want a sports bar to be. It invites screeched profanities. Turf doesn't make any compromises on being first and foremost – a sports bar. And that it does, very well; it's clean, cosy and charismatic.
It's also a pub. An unchanged, unapologetic pub. Steak nights. Pizza nights. Pot and Parmy nights. Wooden floor boards and dark green carpet. Pool tables. Able to do everything a pub does. Birthday drinks, a big night on the weekend, or a quiet beer and a yarn at the bar during the week.
If the whole 'meat and beer' thing isn't really your vibe, there's some more 'gourmet' options on offer – dukkah crusted swordfish and eggplant parmigana to name a few. There's also a generous selection of wine offer, with a strong focus on SA produce – but it's all draught city in the beer department.
At 131 Queen Street, Turf is a dainty skip from trams and trains, leaving departing guests with the entire city of Melbourne to romp around as they please, whether they be dealing with victory or loss.
