Far, far away, in a magical place, where time has stood still, in an almost forgotten valley between Luddesdown and Holly Hill, nestled in the North Kent Downs in the South East of England, there stands a beautiful, charming, enchanting, privately owned, romantic, former Norman church - the only trace of the now ‘lost’ village of Dode. This unique, lovingly restored, Norman, deconsecrated church, located within an amazing setting, is now available for intimate and private events, for up to 42 people: - wedding ceremonies - wedding receptions - wedding breakfasts - civil ceremonies - blessings - handfastings - renewal of wows - Christening and baby naming ceremonies - anniversaries and birthday parties - family gatherings - wakes It is also perfect for location shoots and filming. Built in the reign of William II of England (the third son of William The Conqueror), over 900 years ago, this ancient, English Oak framed building is a place of myth and legend. The precious building is surrounded by a man-made mound that totally shelters the building and its worshipers. This mound has been known from time immemorial as Holly Hill, a sacred and ancient meeting site, only approached by a narrow, secret road with the equally ancient name of Wrangling Lane. The building remains unaltered, retaining all its originality. The atmospheric light is provided by candles and braziers, the floor is strewn with straw and gathered leaves scented with herbs. The 12th century seating is still in place – a reminder of the circle of our forefathers who once gathered here to celebrate important rituals.
