A Victorian folly rescued by a slightly eccentric family and kept alive by our lovely guests. Augill offers a unique chance to meet, sleep, marry & party in a castle. A small and beautiful place, with just 17 bedrooms and a dining room seating 46, Augill Castle is a place you can call home, a very different sort of place to stay.
Set on the very edge of England’s two favourite national parks, it’s our home and it can be yours too. Join in with other guests or hire the whole castle for a fun and laid back castle party or wedding everyone will be talking about for years.
Augill Castle is an exciting place to stay for a new breed of guest looking for an authentic experience: unstuffy, informal, decadently comfortable and famously family friendly. There’s something for everyone from The Great British Bar to the cinema to our famous Little Augill Cooks and Augill Family Cooks cookery school as well as quality time and space, so kick back and relax knowing this is where you belong.
As well as towers, turrets and castellations, Augill Castle has: • fabulous bedrooms with great beds • deep baths and good showers • roaring fires and squishy sofas • wonderfully lazy breakfasts • scrumptious afternoon teas • delicious, hearty, comforting dinners and suppers • acres of family friendly gardens to explore • a private cinema • a library full of games
But most of all we give you the chance to feel unburdened by the world outside. Anything goes at Augill Castle other than hushed tones and false formality, creating unique stays for unique guests. And if you can’t keep the love all to yourself, a castle experience makes a perfect gift.
Augill Castle has seventeen bedrooms to choose from and call your own. Some are wildly romantic and decadent, others more contemporary. Some suit couples, others are better for families. There are turrets for wardrobes, claw-footed baths, stained glass and original leaded windows with big views.
Your bedroom will be furnished with an eclectic mix of proper antique furniture and contemporary pieces. Each room has a deliciously squidgy sofa or two armchairs and some have working fireplaces. It’s everything you’d expect of a boutique hotel with all the comfort of a real family country house. It will be your home as well as ours and a place for you to belong.
A stay at Augill Castle is so much more than just a bedroom. You’ll enjoy the run of the castle and its twenty acres of grounds, shared with a maximum of thirty other guests. Relax in the Drawing Room, Great Hall, Dining Room, Music Room, Library, The Great British Bar in the Conservatory, enjoy free access to the cinema.
There are six rooms in the main castle, enjoying stunning views south over the Yorkshire Dales and Lakeland Fells. The North Wing is an interconnecting suite of two en-suite bedrooms overlooking the kitchen garden. There are a further two Estate Rooms in The Orangery and two Estate Houses. Our latest Estate Room, The Gatehouse, our ultimate couple’s castle retreat, occupies the whole of the castle’s second tower and new for 2018 we have the Little Coach House in the grounds of the castle.
All our Estate rooms and houses have direct access to the castle’s private grounds and their own terrace or garden.
Weddings There are few places more romantic than a castle and we’d love you to make the Augill Castle your own for your wedding celebrations. At Augill we do small and beautiful where intimacy and privacy are the key ingredients so your perfect wedding is just you and the people you love.
Whether you’d like a lavish two day wedding house party with the castle exclusively yours, a private afternoon ceremony followed by a decadent afternoon tea or anything in between, we can deliver the wedding of your dreams with the essentials you need included. There are no set formulas, no two Augill weddings are the same, it’s your day not ours and we take great pleasure
